NM-B Cables

NM-B cable (Non-Metallic, Type B) is the standard sheathed cable for residential wiring, used in dry locations for circuits powering outlets, switches, and lights, featuring two or three insulated copper conductors plus a bare ground wire, all encased in a PVC jacket with a color-coded outer sheath for easy gauge identification (white for 14-gauge, yellow for 12-gauge, orange for 10-gauge). Its “B” rating indicates a higher heat rating, allowing for more flexibility in installation, though its ampacity is limited by the 60°C conductor rating.
